It's on, Chicago.
I'm more than on record as a big fan of Chicago. I love the city and most of its people. I don't though; share the same respect and/or love for its sports teams. Specifically, the Cubs -- the team that most media in the Windy City have already placed in the 2008 World Series. Not so quickly.
You might have missed Jay Mariotti's Chicago Sun Times column from July 8. So, my dear Milwaukeeans, allow me to quote:
"But then, the frumpy hamlet to the north goes out and shocks us. Milwaukee finally splurges on more than a Friday fish fry and trades for one Carsten Charles Sabathia, which gives the Brewers a major-market payroll -- $90 million? -- and causes commissioner Bud Selig to upchuck his frozen custard. So momentous was the acquisition of the renowned pitching ace, Sabathia used his news conference Monday evening to delete the periods from his initials, meaning he'll be known as CC instead of C.C. ..."
"Frumpy hamlet to the north?" Come on, Jay, you can do better than that. Or, maybe you're just not that confident that your precious little Cubbies are in this thing to win it. We, in Milwaukee, are more sure of our Brewers!
The Brewers and Cubs face each other 10 times in the second half. We'll see who's there come October! Game on, Chicago.

alohamu hit it on the head. cub fans love being cub fans, they don't love the cubs. they love the clothes, hanging out, acting superior, all that has to do with anything but the actual game on the field. they have the lowest baseball IQ in the league and are the most obnoxious fans in any sport, and it is with great pleasure that the real baseball fans in this country are allowed to watch the spoiled brats of north chicago choke on it every fall!

Jay Mariotti is such an idiot it isn't even worth replying. So he thinks Milwaukee is inferior. So what? He's just a little pissant journalist who sits in his ivory tower, too scared to go into the lockerroom. A glorified blogger.

I'm a Chicagoan, and I say just because some puffed up journalist calls Milwaukee 'frumpy' (honestly, where did he get that from?) is feeling a bit insecure doesn't make it true. After all, we're the original "me too" city to NYC. We love you Milwaukee, for real. Come visit. Peace.

I love visiting Milwaukee. I loved living in Milwaukee. But I absolutely LOVE being a Cub fan! That being said, I do agree with some of these comments. I remember I once went to a game at County Stadium. Brewers were not doing well, but I noticed EVERYONE was so into the game - which was awesome! I wish I would have gone to County more! Yes it was falling apart but it had a great feeling - AND tailgating was awesome! I love Milwaukee mostly for Kopp's and Marquette. Now being in Chicago, I LOVE the Cubbies! I really hope that Cubs take the NL Central title, but I would love it if Brewers take the Wild Card! That would be so cool. The rivalry between Chicago, Milwaukee, and St Louis is just a great one! Every sports website is saying that NL Central is where the race is at! I love it!

Michael Hunt from JS made a statement to Chicago: .."And when Sabathia took the mound for the first time as a Brewer, lets just say you could hear it all the way down to a certain decrepit stadium. Which is another aspect of The Trade. If it makes Cubs fans sweat just a little pinot noir through their pompous pores, all the better."
