Crews are prepping the former Aladdin's / Saladmaker / Taco Bell space at 202 W. Wisconsin Ave., on the corner of North 2nd Street. Several words including "steak," "seafood" and "Sushi" now grace the building and a "Coming Soon Japanese Restaurant" sign hangs in the window.
For years, this was space housed a Taco Bell. Saladmaker opened at this Wisconsin Avenue location in 2000. The former owner invested more than $70,000 on remodeling and other building improvements in 2000. The restaurant served homemade salads, sandwiches, soups, chili and other quality quick lunch options but closed its doors in 2002.
Aladdin Middle Eastern restaurant then moved in, but left the space to open at the Milwaukee Public Market in June 2006. It's been vacant since.
More information as we get it from the new Japanese restaurant owners.

Hey Alba. Thank you for defining the way some Milwaukeeans think. O.k. So...this location has had a few failed restaurants. BIG deal. Maybe this turns out to be a nice operation that actually might have some good food. I really just wish that some people would just hold what they have to say and keep quiet and give things a chance.

The location has had more failed restaurants than the Coffee Trader! Good luck, miscellaneous Japanese restaurant!

Most Japanese restaurants around the country do not necessarliy have Japanese cooks - they are hard to find. Japanese immigration to the US is VERY low.
