The Fat Abbey Biercafé to replace The Lodge
by Molly Snyder Edler

The Diablos Rojos Group took over the space formerly occupied by The Lodge, 134 E. Juneau Ave. The group plans to open a new venture, The Fat Abbey Biercafé, around May 20.

According to Mike Eitel of the Diablos Rojos Group, the bar and restaurant will offer a huge beer selection with an emphasis on Belgian beers. The Fat Abbey will serve lunch and dinner consisting primarily of pizza, burgers, frites (Belgian fries) and sauces, as well as a weekend brunch.

Prior to the opening, Eitel says they will make numerous changes and updates to the space, including a new-and-improved outdoor patio with a heated, year-round pavilion bar.

“It should be a mix between the Nomad and (Café) Hollander,” says Eitel. “It’s all about gnomes, trolls, jolly monks and good beer.”
