After months sitting vacant, the space that formerly housed The Monkey Bar, 1619 S. 1st St., will reopen at the end of May. The new establishment, Juggs, will cater to Milwaukee’s dwindling but persistently horrifying Juggalo community.

Juggalos (or "Juggalettes" as the females are sometimes called) are super-fans of the band Insane Clown Posse (ICP) and similar horrorcore / underground hip hop groups. According to Shaggy 2 Dope – one member of the Insane Clown Posse duo – "Juggalos come from all walks of life. It doesn't matter if you're born with a silver spoon in your mouth, or a crack rock in your mouth."

Juggalos have strong idioms, slang and characteristics – all of which will be honored at Juggs.

Many devotees paint their faces like a clown or corpse, have hair in a spiky "spider legs" style, wear "hatchet-man" accessories, form the "wicked clown" hand symbol and make or respond to a "whoop-whoop" sound. Some have a real penchant, or a tongue-in-cheek admiration, for murder by a blade weapon.

"It’s a fun-loving crowd," says Juggs manager Tiffani Craggs. "I say let he who has not had a cheeky appreciation for stabbings throw the first stone."

According to Craggs, Juggs will host a variety of special events, including a monthly "Hang From A Chain-Link Fence By Your Back Skin" Night and some tire-burning parties.

Berserk Mime Squad, an Insane Clown Posse tribute band from Brown Deer, will play every Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday night.

Craggs says she is also planning "Bugz on My Nugz" nights every Thursday, activities which she says will raise money for charity.

"Thursdays we'll take time to give back to the community," says Craggs. "We'll have a facepaint drive, collect and re-circulate used tongue studs for our Little Jugglas program (children raised as Juggalos) and we'll invite neighborhood homeless in for special theme parties."

Fridays will be known as "Lick Off A Friend’s Face Paint Friday" and will be hosted by The Great Milenko, with Jugga-jello shots for $1 all night.

Juggalo’s beverage of choice – for both drinking and spraying each other – is Faygo, an off-brand soda from Detroit. Juggs will have nine taps of Faygo, at least four of which will be fruit punch, and offer refillable two-liter plastic bottles to go, similar to the growler program at other bars.

A variety of Juggalo-inspired cocktails will also be available, including The Muggalo (think Juggalos meet Harry Potter), Piggy Pie, The Porta-Potty and The Charlie Sheen. Sheen emceed the 2012 Gathering of the Juggalos, a grosser version of Burning Man sans the mind-blowing works of art, but with much more poop-stained litter and seedy carnival yuckiness at a muddy campground.

Although the Juggalo community has waned in membership since it originally formed around ICP in the ‘90s, Craggs says she knows at least three Juggalos in Racine and one in Oak Creek.

"We really can’t wait to serve as the country’s first Juggalo bar," says Craggs. "Whoop whoop, Milwaukee!"
