Since man first stumbled upon the concept of opening an establishment at which alcoholic beverages are sold, a shot and a beer has been the most basic and frequent order.

Some bars just don't have the right vibe, specializing in frilly drinks, cocktails and other upscale whatnot. Others, though, still have that classic, come-as-you-are atmosphere and are happy to serve.

At the Nomad World Pub, 1401 E. Brady St., the shot and a beer isn't just available, it's recommended: the "Prix Fix" -- consisting of a can of Pabst, shot of Jameson and a cigarette -- is an actual menu item.

Maybe that's why you piced The Nomad as your choice for Best Bar for a Shot and a Beer, 2010.
