"Bar Month" at OnMilwaukee.com is back for another round! The whole month of February, we're serving up intoxicatingly fun bars and club articles -- including guides, unique features, drink recipes and more. Grab a designated driver and dive in!
The votes are in and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best: Bars & Clubs, 2009. The results of this readers' poll, including an editors' pick, are available in this series of articles that run all month long in the Bars and Clubs section of OnMilwaukee.com.
The competition is pretty tough on and around Brady Street, where there are more great bars than most neighborhoods have bars good, bad and otherwise.
But, The Nomad World Pub, 1401 E. Brady St., is one of the longer-lived and more beloved places on the street, where it has anchored the corner of Brady and Warren for more than a dozen years. It knocks out defending champion Hi-Hat Lounge, which finished third, behind Wolski's, in this year's readers' poll.
A great place to watch soccer, gather on a warm summer's day, listen to live music or a DJ, and sometimes spend your leftover Euros (during special promotions), The Nomad has a devoted following, but welcomes newcomers, too, with its friendly vibe and great range of beers.
The OnMilwaukee.com editors chose the now leafier than ever Hi-Hat Garage, which is now non-smoking and received a great facelift last year.
OnMilwaukee.com editors' choice: Hi-Hat Garage
Runners-up:
2. Wolski's
3. Hi-Hat Lounge
4. Jo-Cat's
5. Hi-Hat Garage
6. Trocadero
7. Up & Under Pub
8. Jamo's
9. Redroom
10. Thurman's
11. Regano's Roman Coin
12. Halliday's
13. Club Brady
14. Circa
15. Listwan's
16. Franklin Place

As one poster mentioned, the bartenders are hot. True! But they also can't tend bar when it gets busy. I'd rather have a good bartender than a hot one (unless I'm at Hooters?) I've always found Nomad to be cramped, smokey, and more than a little pretentious. There are many other Brady bars I'd rather go to.

Nomad rules. Plain and simple. Beer is cold. Bartenders are hot. Enough said.

ehhh...what?! what is exactly "best" about Nomad? a super tiny bar which makes even your underwear smell like an ashtray only after 5 minutes being there?
