When it comes to Irish pubs in Brew City, you really love County Clare. The Lower East Side hotel bar and restaurant has nabbed the title of best Irish bar, as voted by OnMilwaukee.com, for at least the eighth straight year.
In perhaps equally interesting news, Paddy's, which has always run a pretty close second, fell back a bit, clocking in at third, just behind Mo's Irish Pub. Paddy's once again nabs the editor's pick.
It's not hard to see why we love these two very different places. County Clare, 1234 N. Astor St., is also a small inn and serves some great authentic food, including Irish root soup, shepherd's pie and a mean corned beef and cabbage. With one corner home to a toast fireplace and couches and a space open for regular live music, County Clare rarely feels cramped (except, of course, on St. Patrick's Day).
Paddy's, 2339 N. Murray Ave., on the other hand, feels more like your Irish friend's living room. It has a great patio for use during the summer months, too, that has become one of the East Side's best gathering places during warm weather.
OnMilwaukee.com editors' pick: Paddy's Pub
2. Mo's Irish Pub
3. Paddy's Pub
4. Trinity Three Irish Pubs
5. The Harp
