The votes are in and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best: Eat & Drink, 2007. The results of this readers' poll, including an editors' pick, are available in this series of articles that run all month long in the Bars and Clubs section of OnMilwaukee.com.

Some people see it as a gathering spot, a meeting place, an underrated restaurant and an indispensable part of nightlife.

Others see it as kind of museum for the way clubs were "back in the day."

Some go to enjoy the music, a mix of hip-hop, house, bubble-gum pop and old-school Top 40. Others go to make fun of the music.

Some people go there to be seen, which is convenient, because others go there to people-watch.

Bottom line: people in Milwaukee go to Victor's, 1230 N. Van Buren.

They've been going there -- young, old, hot, cold, dashing, desperate and everything in between -- for 44years, and OnMilwaukee.com readers voted it the best pickup bar in Milwaukee.

The phrase "pickup bar" has kind of a sleazy ring to it. Some guests detect a sleazy vibe at Victor's, which is known in some circles as "Victim's."

But, you don't stay open for nearly half a century without doing something right. Victor's has a friendly vibe. It draws a diverse, dance-happy crowd and the opportunity to mingle with members of the opposite sex abounds.

The party gets started at around 10 p.m. on most nights. The bash on New Year's Eve is legendary, often serving as a pre-game warmup for the Polar Bear plunge into Lake Michigan.

If you have checked it out in awhile, make it a point to do so in the coming weeks. Perhaps you'll see why Victor's outdistanced the competition as Milwaukee's premier pickup bar.
