Best bar to "see and be seen," 2010: Whiskey Bar

"Bar Month" at OnMilwaukee.com is back for another round! The whole month of February, we're serving up intoxicatingly fun articles on bars and clubs -- including guides, the latest trends, rapid bar reviews and more. Grab a designated driver and dive in!

The votes are in and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best: Bars & Clubs, 2010. Find readers' results in 50 categories, including an editors' pick, in this series of articles that run daily in the Bars and Clubs section of OnMilwaukee.com.

Bar owners are always happy to attract a crowd, especially when it's the "right" crowd. By that, we mean movers and shakers; the "beautiful" people ... the VIP contingent.

In one way or another, even "regular" people like to feel like VIPs. Few things create that vibe more quickly than the presence of people of influence in local business, political, cultural, social and athletic circles.

There is nothing wrong with quenching your thirst while surrounded by regular Joes like yourself. Once in a while, though, its fun to look at the next table and seeing people of influence -- a renowned attorney; a TV news anchor; a professional athlete.

In the opinion of OnMilwaukee.com readers, the best place to "see and be seen" is Whiskey Bar, 788 N. Jackson St.

Operating for less than a year in a space once occupied by Club Belize, ParkBar and (long ago) Club Marilyn, Whiskey Bar has created an upscale casual atmosphere with diffused lighting, wide leather chairs, sectionals and sofas and -- as the name suggests -- a solid selection of whiskeys.

The location near Cathedral Square Park puts Whiskey Bar in the circuit of places to improve one's profile. Top runners-up Elsa's on the Park and Taylor's are located just a few blocks away.

OnMilwaukee.com editors' choice: Whiskey Bar

I always get a kick out of people that possess such fragile egos and such a low amount of self worth that they need to go to a certain bar or restaurant to create an identify for themselves. Pure comedy.
