Milwaukee's best sports bar, 2010: Fanatics

"Bar Month" at OnMilwaukee.com is back for another round! The whole month of February, we're serving up intoxicatingly fun articles on bars and clubs -- including guides, the latest trends, rapid bar reviews and more. Grab a designated driver and dive in!

The votes are in and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best: Bars & Clubs, 2010. Find readers' results in 50 categories, including an editors' pick, in this series of articles that run daily in the Bars and Clubs section of OnMilwaukee.com.

Whether you are talking about pro, college, high school or even little league sports, many coaches agree that winning a championship is extremely difficult.

And, repeating as a champion is tougher still.

That's what makes the accomplishment of Fanatics Sports Central, 185 N. Jefferson St., so impressive. For the second consecutive year, OnMilwaukee.com readers chose Fanatics as their favorite place to watch, eat, breathe, talk and live sports.

Fanatics, which opened in the fall of 2007, has 42 high-definition screens, including a 180-inch video wall in the "stadium" section. It has a game room. It has a luxury box. It has a full menu of burgers, sandwiches, salads and chicken wings. That combination allowed it to defeat runners-u like Hooligan's, Zim's and Major Goolsby's.

When it came time to make an editors' pick, the staff was torn between the soccer-friendly vibe of the Highbury Pub, 2322 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., and Karma, 600 E. Ogden Ave. With a menu sure to satisfy hungry fans, Karma was the choice.

Hey you guys should check out Mulligans irish pub and grill in Franklin. Not a huge place but there are plenty of tv's and it's a great place to watch a game. the food is out of this world and the happy hours are unbeatable. Beats driving downtown and you get the same atmosphere for half the price. Mulligans is an awesome place that needs to be on this list.

I agree. Karma hands down is the best sports bar. Can't beat the food and the atmosphere. And their tv's are worth watching!

Yea!!! My favorite bar made it again as the BEST in town! If you noticed, I didnt just say "sports" bar... this bar is the best for watching any game your hearts desire.... if you dont see it on the screen the manager is usually more than happy to switch it on. Some one else made a coment about the age of the customers... I'm more than a decade past the 21 to 25 age demographic and I see plenty of 30 ,40, and even 50 somethings there! Its a very mixed croud... doctors... lawyers...even a great group of foosball players. You know a bar is good when it draws people from Chicago and from just down the block. The sports are great but the above average bar food and great staff make it more than just a sports bar! ps. Its also great to see local and visiting "sports figures" there just hanging out...its kind of like a good chinese restaurant... you know its good if chinese people are eating there themselves... you know its gotta be pretty good if Brewers and former NBA players hang there!!!

Don't get me wrong, I love Hooligans, but "sports bar" it is not. Just having sports on multiple TV's does not make you a sports bar. Zims and Karma are both light years ahead of Hooligans for a place to watch a game. Now bar food is a different story...
