Blackthorn Pub is closed

According to a source, Blackthorn Pub, 750 N. Jefferson St., closed for good today.

The bar and restaurant was not open on Friday night and a sign on the door reads "temporarily closed." The number has been disconnected.

Blackthorn's tagline was "not the typical Irish Pub" and served Irish and American cuisine for lunch, dinner and late night.

Place was advertised as a Irish version of hooters with girls in short skirts. Belonged on Water Street with Cayote Ugly. Was doomed from the beginning. Whomever green-lights these stupid business plans needs to be fired.

It took time for the 4-year-old-tavern McKiernan`s to find its legs, but recently, it underwent changes and introduced a new menu - including lunch options - and a Guinness Club. The bar and grill has a similar look and feel as Barnacle Bud`s, which makes sense, considering it has the same chef and owner.

Bartender Judith Jacobsson, who is from Wales, and regular customer, Fiona Kavanagh, originally from Belfast, both confirm that the House of Guinness has the look and feel of an Irish pub.The space is simple, with lots of dark wood, a large bar, a smattering of tables, Guinness signs, a couple of Irish flags and lots of conversation.
