Earlier this year, OnMilwaukee reported on massive changes occurring in the stunning cream city brick building formerly known as La Cage, 801 S. 2nd St.

The latest development is the formal unveiling of the new event space, LVL Events, located above the night club. On Tuesday, May 22 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. the public is invited to check out the renovated area. Free food samples from eight different caterers along with free wine and beer will be available.

LVL Events can accommodate up to 200 people and features a stage area, dance floor, dozens of tables, large bar, kitchen, exposed cream city brick walls, large windows and, later this season, a 1,600-square foot attached deck.

"One of the trends in weddings is to have the reception and the wedding in the same spot and this space will be ideal for that," says Michael Kucharske of Gravity Marketing LLC, the contract operators of LVL Bistro, LVL Dance and LVL Events. "And because we are just opening now, we have very aggressive pricing for rentals this summer."

Corey Grubb and George Prentice ran the space from 1984 until 2005 and regained ownership in 2017.

"We're completely rebranding," Grubb told OnMilwaukee in January.

LVL Bistro, located in the lower level, is an upscale-but-casual restaurant that’s already in operation and LVL Dance, a premiere dance club, is currently open but also still under renovation.

Additions to LVL Dance include a massive pyramid shaped "screen" hanging above the dance floor that reflects multiple projected images simultaneously as well as a CO2 tank that blasts carbon dioxide into the space, instantly lowering the temperature by 25-30 degrees.

"It’s very refreshing – especially when people are sweaty and dancing," says Kucharske.
