Molson Coors, which has a history of packaging water and donating it to Americans in need, has stepped up again to donate safe drinking water to truck drivers in the U.S. and Canada, according to a post on its blog.
The company, which, of course, owns Miller Brewing here in Milwaukee, has donated 154,000 cans of water to help keep truckers safe by limiting their need to stop for supplies during the coronavirus outbreak.
Last week, 50,000 cans went to Werner Enterprises, a national trucking company, for distribution to its terminals in Florida, Georgia and Texas.
The remaining 104,000 cans are going to breweries in Milwaukee; Albany, Georgia; Elkton, Virginia; Fort Worth, Texas; Golden, Colorado; Montreal; and Toronto for distribution to more than 1oo other trucking companies.
The water is canned at the Molson Coors brewery in Trenton, Ohio, and shipped from its Shenandoah brewery in Elkton.
Graphic Packaging International donated the 12-pack cartons that hold the cans.
"Truck drivers are the unsung heroes keeping America nourished and our supply chains moving during a time of great need," said Michael Nordman, Molson Coors’ community affairs director in the blog post.
"While many around the country are sheltering in place, truck drivers are working long hours away from their families to keep our stores and pantries stocked."
Since the outbreak hit the U.S. and Canada, Molson Coors has also given drivers food and drink, and clean, sanitized bathrooms to help cut down on required stops during their trips.
Many of those drivers are out there delivering beer to thirsty Americans staying at home.
The water distribution is part of Molson Coors' ongoing effort, launched in 2017, to help communities in crisis.
According to the post, "The company also recently donated 50,000 cans of water to the Salvation Army Intermountain Division in Denver, Colorado, to assist with the organization’s COVID-19 relief efforts. The donations are part of the company’s broader response to the pandemic, which also included a $1 million donation pledged last week to the United States Bartenders’ Guild."

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., where he lived until he was 17, Bobby received his BA-Mass Communications from UWM in 1989 and has lived in Walker's Point, Bay View, Enderis Park, South Milwaukee and on the East Side.

With his most recent band, The Yell Leaders, Bobby released four LPs and had a songs featured in episodes of TV's "Party of Five" and "Dawson's Creek," and films in Japan, South America and the U.S. The Yell Leaders were named the best unsigned band in their region by VH-1 as part of its Rock Across America 1998 Tour. Most recently, the band contributed tracks to a UK vinyl/CD tribute to the Redskins and collaborated on a track with Italian novelist Enrico Remmert.
He's produced three installments of the "OMCD" series of local music compilations for OnMilwaukee.com and in 2007 produced a CD of Italian music and poetry.
In 2005, he was awarded the City of Asti's (Italy) Journalism Prize for his work focusing on that area. He has also won awards from the Milwaukee Press Club.
He has be heard on 88Nine Radio Milwaukee talking about his "Urban Spelunking" series of stories, in that station's most popular podcast.
