Let's face facts: college students like to drink. And the choices are plentiful around the Marquette campus. But one establishment, the new Sobelman's @Marquette, inside the old Angelo's space, 1601 W. Wells St., is the choice for OnMilwaukee.com readers.

While we on the editorial staff prefers the traditional Murphy's Irish Pub, Sobelman's already had an established name when they opened up their newest location in August.

Known for arguably the best burgers in town, Marquette students have flocked to the new location to celebrate that "A", or drown their sorrows in that "D" this entire school year.

Yes, I go to Sobelmans at Marquette for a beer once in a while. Especially when I want my Best Burger and the line is coning out the door of the Soblemans at St Paul Avenue location. I just turn the vehicle and go up to 16th & Wells and have a beer there -with my burger.

Burgers for students!

Dave Sobelman, owner of Sobelman`s and Sobelman`s Tallgrass Grill, signed a lease on Tuesday that will allow him to open Sobelman`s @Marquette inside the old Angelo`s space, 1601 W. Wells St., in the heart of the Marquette University neighborhood.

A year ago, Sobelman`s Pub and Grill finished a close second to Murphy`s Irish Pub in OnMilwaukee`s balloting for Best Marquette Bar. This year, the roles are reversed. Owners Dave and Melanie Sobelman have courted business from Marquette students and alums for nearly a decade, serving cold beer and good food in a clean, cozy former Schlitz tavern at 1900 W. St. Paul Ave.

Sometimes on a cold day, all you want to do is pull up a bar stool in a place where everybody knows your name. Luckily, for Marquette students and area denizens, cozy pubs and friendly watering holes are nearby.

As a group, college students are pretty predictable. They like cheap, cold beer and bars filled with diversions and big crowds of similarly-dressed people around their age. According to OMC readers, Murphy`s Irish Pub has it all.
