Social Circle: Favorite Irish bar?
The "Social Circle" is a group effort between readers, social networkers and the OnMilwaukee.com editors. Every Monday, we ask a question via Facebook and Twitter and then post the responses from our Facebook "likers" and Twitter followers in this column. Well-known Milwaukee movers and shakers will contribute, too.
Irish Fest took Milwaukee by storm this weekend so we asked the Social Circle what's their favorite Irish bar and why. There are certainly plenty to choose from.
Here's to shamrocks atop Guinness froth and hurling sticks on the wall. Sláinte, Milwaukee!
John Ecker: "O'Connor's, 84th and Greenfield. Great owner. Very friendly guy, nice drink specials, close to home, they have Powers and Smithwick's. And they throw a tremendous St. Patty's Day party."
Matthew Franey: "County Clare. Not even a question why. It feels like you are in Ireland."
Jamel Harris: "McBob's – best corn beef in town."
Maureen Haslam: "Buckley's for sure. Awesome family."
Jenni Linse Hofschulte: "I like many for many different reasons – like McBob's for corned beef and the live hurling matches on the big screens at Irish Pub – but right now I am a huge fan of Bloody Free Breakfast at Burke's Irish Castle. They also have fantastic corned beef and pastrami. The owner, Sean, is a very nice guy. They have a Brewers shuttle and it is all fresh and new in there."
Katharina Hren: "Paddy's. The M&Ms, the music, the atmosphere."
Kim Gebauer: "Irish Pub. They are a great sponsor of the Milwaukee Hurling Club, and serve an amazing grilled cheese."
Andrew Mclane: "Flannery's. Great specials, awesome people."
Tim Nguyen: "Buckley's for sure. Awesome family."
Kerry McGowan: "McBob's. The atmosphere, the food and the drink specials."
Kyle Riley: "The old O'Donoghues Irish Cottage. We miss you guys!"
Rick Sackett: "O'Lydias, because my family owns it. Free Irish fest shuttle this weekend."
Colleen Smith: "The Erin Inn in Erin."
Steven Vieth: "O'Reilly's. My dad, Steven Vieth, and Jack O'Reilly owned it and when it was in business opened at 6 a.m. That's reason enough. But Paddy's is bad ass."
