"Bar Month" at OnMilwaukee.com is back for another round! The whole month of February, we're serving up intoxicatingly fun bars and club articles -- including guides, unique features, drink recipes and more. Grab a designated driver and dive in!
Every few years, there's a new trend in bar themes. Martini bars, wine bars, vodka lounges and bars with a zillion beer choices all have their day in the sun. But what about martini bars specifically? Milwaukee welcomed a smattering of swanky 'tini lounges during the past decade, some of which are still around, a couple of which didn't make it.
In your opinion, are martini bars still cool or are they tragically passé? Sound-off, readers!
Martini bars are still hot. Martinis are timeless, and, consequently, so are martini bars. They will always make a great special occasion destination, whether a couple celebrates an anniversary, Valentine's Day or just a romantic night out.
Martini bars are over. Martini bars were popular in the '90s, along with fads like swing dancing and Tae Bo. There are some nice martini lounges in Milwaukee that are still worth visiting, but the martini bar craze has been over for ages.

I think the idea of the so-called "martini-bar" with it's 200 different martinis is dead. There is definitely an up and coming "cocktail culture" - basically foodies that want well made drinks with quality ingredients that aren't glow in the dark blue and don't end in -TINI. The days of back bars flooded with 73 different types of vodka are over. Good riddance. I enjoy good booze and well made drinks and there are a few bars in Milwaukee that supply both.

HeritageSpringer summed up well what I was trying to say, and he did it in only one word... Tools. Well done!

Thing is, there are gin or vodka martinis. That's it! A martini does not contain chocolate or coffee, etc. It contains vermouth and for some olive or lime/lemon. Anything else is not really a martini. They are served up right at Angelo's where they may just ask you to kiss it so they can top it off... I'm going to make one right now!

I have to agree with vasser. The martini lounge is as cool as a starter jacket.

As long as there are tools (these are the guys walking around with bluetoothe headsets in their ears; let's call them blue tools), these bars will exist. These idiots do not mind paying for overpriced drinks.
