I'm pretty sure I had a beer or two at State Street Retreat, a bar tucked into an industrial area near Highway 41. It was after a Brewers game and I'm pretty sure I had a decent time.

Over the years, several people told me to try a burger, meatloaf or a fish fry at the bar and I always meant to do that.

Now I can't.

The Retreat, located at 5018 W. State St., closed its doors a couple weeks ago and the building is for sale.

Moral of the story -- be sure and get to those "I've meaning to go to" places. You never know when your chance will expire.

Drew, I think the days of a the fish fry, meat loaf and burgers you are referring to are when state street retreat was known as jorgys on state. Seems to me that place was written up few times for good food. Not sure if the retreat ever was. What is with this current now past owner could she be any more childish? I think she is the one that needs to step back from the bottle before posting her rants here. Like her "restaurant" she too is a joke!

Wow Marie, have a drink and calm down! You are not the first person to open a business that doesnt work out. Also, if your reputation is as important to you as you say I would suggest handling yourself in a bit more professional way when posting. Im not sure about the food poisioning, and the cops may not have physically moved you guys out, but the journal/sentinal on july 16th said you had to go!

OH NO! A crappy little hole in the wall bar in an old house that felt "updating" the bar meant taking down last year's Packer Miller Lite signs and replacing them with this year's Packers Miller Lite signs has closed. Guess I will have to go to the hundred or so bars just like it in Milwaukee.
