As I mentioned last week, the new Bomb Shelter opened on Saturday and yes, the old-school beer-themed bar is serving the original '60s Schlitz. But there are plenty of slightly more complex craft beers available for sampling, too.

Tonight the Walker's Point tavern kicks off its Suds Club, a weekly beer tasting event from 7 to 10 p.m. It's $5 to join and there's a $5 weekly club fee, and this charge gets you sample of the weekly beers "until they are gone," a frosty full glass of the featured beer, membership card and a tracking sheet to record your sampled beers.

Tonight's sample beers are:
Ska Brewing Decadent Imperial IPA (Durango, Colo.)
Great Divide Hercules Double IPA (Denver)
Avery Brewing Maharaja Imperial IPA (Boulder, Colo.)
Southern Tier Unearthly Imperial IPA (Lakewood, N.Y.)

Tonight's featured beer is Wisconsin's own Central Waters Ouisconsing Red Ale (Amherst), an amber ale with a mellow nutty flavor.

Julie Lawrence Special to OnMilwaukee.com

OnMilwaukee.com staff writer Julie Lawrence grew up in Wauwatosa and has lived her whole life in the Milwaukee area.

As any “word nerd” can attest, you never know when inspiration will strike, so from a very early age Julie has rarely been seen sans pen and little notebook. At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee it seemed only natural that she major in journalism. When OnMilwaukee.com offered her an avenue to combine her writing and the city she knows and loves in late 2004, she knew it was meant to be. Around the office, she answers to a plethora of nicknames, including “Lar,” (short for “Larry,” which is short for “Lawrence”) as well as the mysteriously-sourced “Bill Murray.”
