The Journeyman, the hotly anticipated hotel, restaurant and bar coming to the Third Ward this summer, made its next big move toward opening this afternoon, hiring Gen Longoria as lead bartender for both its Tre Rivali restaurant and The Outsider rooftop bar and lounge.

A San Antonio native, Longoria moved to Milwaukee in 2001 and eventually earned her degree in culinary arts from The Art Institute of Wisconsin. She then served as general manager and beverage director of Distil – where her bourbon-forward bar program helped it earn a place as one of Food & Wine magazine's 50 best bars in America – as well as a curator of special sophisticated bar programs for the SURG Restaurant Group.

Longoria now moves to the Tre Rivali and The Outsider. At the former, she'll be tasked with creating a bar program that complements the restaurant's planned Mediterranean menu – including regionally inspired cocktails, wines, spirits and beers, highlighted by a seasonally rotating combination of eight local tap brews.

At the latter – the hotel's 5,000-square foot indoor and outdoor rooftop bar – Longoria's beverage program is expected to highlight more than 40 local beer varieties as well as a growler program, allowing guests to take home tap beers. On-tap wine, offerings from small batch distilleries and more than 10 seasonal cocktails are also expected on The Outsider's drink menu.

The hotel, restaurant and bar are all scheduled to open together next month.
