Friday fish, fun and fantastic Southern rock For me, a normal weekend usually consists of hustling about my part-time jobs, maybe getting a work out in, and spending some time with friends. Weekends are when those of us in service industry jobs tend to have our busiest nights, so typically I'd rather pick-up rather than lose a shift. However, last Friday I was off from work, free to roam, with plans to see Alabama Shakes at the Riverside. |

Will The Tasting Room reopen? In the past few years, the East Side corner of Humboldt and Kane has really come alive again with the construction of condos and Bel Air Cantina. But the Tasting Room, 1100 E. Kane St., remains silent, even though it seems like the ideal spot for another bar or eatery. Will it ever reopen? |

The adultlike birthday party I always know it's going to be a good night when I get every single thing on my to-do list done before heading out for the evening. This was the case when 7:30 p.m. rolled around and it was time to start the birthday celebrations for a friend of mine. I gave myself a big pat on the back and flew out the door just in time to make it to an 8 p.m. reservation at Odd Duck, 2352 S. Kinnickinnic Ave. |

Five Milwaukee bars I really want to visit I have been writing for OnMilwaukee.com for 12 years, and yet, there are still so many people, places and things I have yet to profile. That said, here are five bars that I hope to write about someday, or at the very least, stop in for a drink or two. |

Where do you "pre-game?" Call it youthful exuberance, but I got to Turner Hall a little too early on Friday. Along with the two friends who joined me so I could review the Brian Jonestown Massacre show, we were so excited that we arrived just after the doors opened. Obviously, it was a long time before the band went on stage. Three guys standing around in a concert venue before any music is played is, well, boring. So we walked around the block to Mader's for a beer. |

A Fish Day frolic If you haven't heard of this festival, well frankly, you should educate yourself. Fish Day takes place in beautiful Port Washington. It is billed as the world's largest one day outdoor fish fry. Contrary to popular belief, the festival does last only one day (although there are many who start early and finish late). I personally have attended this fishy fest on a regular basis for as long as I can remember. Then again, I also grew up in good ol' P Dub. |
