David the Bounty Hunter

So our state legislature has created a furor by passing legislation that would legalize bail bondsmen and bounty hunters in Wisconsin.

Some people are for it and lots of people are against it, but I can certainly see one upside: it’s one way we can get rid of Sheriff David Clarke once and for all.

We can put his horse in a trailer and send him to the location of the guy who jumped bail. Then the sheriff can hop on his horse with his cowboy hat, big and shiny belt buckle, pistol in a holster on his hip and show his ruthlessness as he chases the bad guy.

We can pay for him to learn how to use a lariat and he can lasso the creep and haul him back to the trailer and bring him back to Wisconsin. It’s a match made in heaven.

You're fired

It’s almost as if the Milwaukee County Board can’t help proving itself, over and over, to be a bunch petty miscreants who wouldn’t know good governance if it dropped into their laps.

The board voted to fire the County Corporation Counsel Kimberly Walker last week. Nobody had any real reason to take this action. But she is an appointment of County Executive Chris Abele and that’s reason enough for this group of sorry excuses for leaders.

The chairman of the board, Marina Dimitrijevic, continues to distinguish herself as an unfathomably vindictive, petty leader. And for some odd reason, she has a set of tight collars on a lot of this board.

If there was ever a good argument to continue to cut their powers, salaries, influence, terms and everything else, this latest joke is it.

Animals are important too

I’m not a member of PETA but there is a special place reserved in hell for two guys and their friends who went nuts recently.

The first is the guy who beat a turtle to death with a golf club. Either he had hit a horrible shot and was angry, or he thought this was cool or funny. And the guys he was playing with probably laughed the way macho guys do when they watch something disgusting.

Then there is the guy who chained a young chocolate-covered female pitbull to a cement jetty on a beach near Sheridan Park and shot the dog two or three times. I don’t have a bushel basket full of love for pitbulls generally, but I’d love to put this guy in a pen with about a dozen pitbulls who have lousy personalities.

Like I say, there is a special spot in hell for both these guys and for anyone who knows about these things and isn’t telling.

With a history in Milwaukee stretching back decades, Dave tries to bring a unique perspective to his writing, whether it's sports, politics, theater or any other issue.

He's seen Milwaukee grow, suffer pangs of growth, strive for success and has been involved in many efforts to both shape and re-shape the city. He's a happy man, now that he's quit playing golf, and enjoys music, his children and grandchildren and the myriad of sports in this state. He loves great food and hates bullies and people who think they are smarter than everyone else.

This whole Internet thing continues to baffle him, but he's willing to play the game as long as OnMilwaukee.com keeps lending him a helping hand. He is constantly amazed that just a few dedicated people can provide so much news and information to a hungry public.

Despite some opinions to the contrary, Dave likes most stuff. But he is a skeptic who constantly wonders about the world around him. So many questions, so few answers.
