The Bay View Neighborhood Association announced Friday that its board of directors has shelved the popular Bay View Bash event indefinitely.
The annual event took place every summer since 2004 along Kinnickinnic Avenue.
According to the statement, "Due to the increasing commitment of resources as well as the increased liability of the event, the value and benefit to both the BVNA and the community was reevaluated. 'The BVNA truly appreciates the hard work of event chair Amy Carlson, and her entire planning committee over the past four years, as well as the hundreds of volunteers who have helped make the Bash happen each year. We will all miss the music, food and fun.' states board president, Anne Fisher. Carlson stepped down from her volunteer role in January."
The statement noted that BVNA's other regular events, including Winter Fun in Bay View, Chill on the Hill summer concert series in Humboldt Park, the KK Triangle Beautification Project and KK Holiday will continue and will be bolstered with new events, too.

Not sure what's going on with the BV-group. They aren't doing the rummage sale this year either. Other than planting some flowers, what are they doing?

I am little too little, little too late, but I think what is really happening here is that the powers that be - read white, wealthy yuppies if wish, weren't too happy with an event that steered so far towards the colorful, the loud and the left of center event that the Bash was the last couple of years. Face it, if you look at those in the BVNA, (and I am stereotyping I know), but really feel that if they are going to put their money, and mouth behind something, that they would like more Jazz in the Park, and less a south side Locust Street Days. It is a shame. I had a blast.

The Bay View Bash was becoming one of the best neighborhood events around, and one that a lot of people really looked forward to. I think it is too valuable and too well-run to be gone, the powers that be will realize that if they don't already
