"American Idol" hopeful and Milwaukee-native Danny Gokey capped off his day back home with a trip to Miller Park where he threw out a ceremonial first pitch and then sang the national anthem before the Brewers took on the Chicago Cubs.
His pitch was ju-u-u-ust a bit high, sailing a couple feet over Casey McGahee, who made a nice save. And Gokey's anthem was a little labored, understandable considering his day-long marathon of public appearances.
A sellout crowd of 42,025 roared for Gokey, a finalist on the program, but the loudest cheers of the night came in the eighth inning when Ryan Braun's two-run home run put the Brewers ahead and closer Trevor Hoffman -- entering the game to an eardrum-rattling version of "Hell's Bells" pitched a perfect ninth to seal Milwaukee's 3-2 victory.
OnMilwaukee.com contributing photographer Julie Wagner captured Gokey's visit to Miller Park.

dumbest thing i saw last night: some rube from FSN asking gokey (and this is nearly verbatim) "which three brewers would you choose for American Idol? Corey Hart, JJ Hardy, or Ryan Braun? choose one". has gokey heard them sing? choose 3? choose 1? how the hell should gokey know? i know the gokey thing is getting way tiresome. and i know the brewer's pre-game isn't "60 Minutes". but, fer chrissakes, somebody who gets paid to do a job came up with that nonsense???
