In honor of the reopening of the Hoan Bridge, we're relaunching our famous Hoan Bridge Game for your edification (while your boss looks the other way). But first, here's a quick timeline recounting the rise and fall of the Bridge to Nowhere.
1977 -- Hoan Bridge goes up.
December 13, 2000 -- Hoan Bridge goes down.
December 28, 2000 -- Milwaukeeans gather to watch the damaged section be pulled down.
January-August 2001 -- Workers stare at gaping hole and scratch their chins; stress shaves years off the lives of rush-hour motorists on Kinnickinnic Avenue and South 1st Street.
February 17, 2001 -- Southbound lanes reopened with one lane going in each direction.
September 2001 -- Workers make remarkably rapid progress on bridge repair.
October 11, 2001 -- Gov. Scott McCallum shows his faith in repairs by rolling over the bridge at 10 a.m. Two northbound lanes open to traffic for the first time in nearly a year.
November 1, 2001 -- All six lanes of the bridge expected to be reopened.
Now that you know the story behind our favorite bridge (and part of our logo), click here to our play the Flash game.
