IN:SITE, an organization fostering opportunities for temporary public art in Milwaukee County, launched its first open invitation for applications on its Web site.

The "Opportunities" page of the Web site, where the application form can be accessed, also has detailed descriptions and images of the six spring sites.

Four of the sites are in Bay View, where IN:SITE will be mounting its first set of temporary public art in early May with the support of the Bay View Neighborhood Association (BVNA) and the property and business owners.

The other two sites are on West North Avenue, where IN:SITE curated, managed, and promoted two series of installations in 2006. One of the sites for spring, at 3615 W. North Ave., will become a permanent location for temporary murals that will rotate every six months.

IN:SITE invites artists to submit applications for installing works at these sites. IN:SITE's two-page application form makes it easy for all artists, emerging or established, residing inside or outside Milwaukee County to apply.

IN:SITE hopes to reach out to artists who may not have done public art before, but wish to translate their work into the temporary public art medium. The "Opportunities" page of the Web site suggests that artists think, "outside the permanent public art box. IN:SITE projects have included the use of paper bags, Styrofoam cups, slide projections and books."

The deadline for applications is Feb. 28, 2007. Artists can submit applications either online or via mail.
