The Milwaukee Public Library and Ald. Robert Puente announced today that they will hold two community meetings concerning the redevelopment of the Mill Road Library, currently located at 6431 N. 76th St.

The first meeting is slated for Thursday, Feb. 26 at 6:30 p.m. at Lamb of God Missionary Baptist Church, 8415 W. Bradley Rd. Almost a week later, on Wednesday, March 4, the second meeting is set for Destiny Youth Plaza, 7220 N. 76th St., at 6:30 p.m. The meetings will be used to share information and gather input on the proposed mixed-use building that will house the new Mill Road Library.

Following in the footsteps of the recently redeveloped mixed-use Villard Square and East Branch libraries, the Milwaukee Public Library Board of Trustees are currently looking at a similar mixed-use building proposal from the development team of Maures Development, Common Bond and Engberg Anderson.

Back in December, the board expressed interest in the plan – which would include 46 units of affordable housing, a 15,000-square foot library on the first floor, dedicated on-site parking for library users, green space and a potential 2,500-square foot commercial space on a city-owned parcel at 7717 W. Good Hope Rd. – but wanted to gain more input on the suggested second use.

The Mill Road Library is just one MPL branch currently slated for redevelopment. The Forest Home, Capitol and Martin Luther King branches are all set to be renovated or replaced. The Tippecanoe library is also in the midst of a full renovation – albeit in the same building – that's scheduled to be finished in late fall.
