Whether you were on the prom court or wouldn't have been caught dead slow dancing in a gym, the Milwaukee Pedal Pusher Society -- a female bicycle group -- offers you the opportunity to create the prom experience of your dreams.
The Pedal Pusher Society's adult prom takes place Saturday, Sept. 26, at Stonefly Brewery, 735 E. Center St. The tag line of this year's prom is "No free food, no free drinks, just the most awesome night of your life."
The event costs $5 at the door and includes music by DJ Shouty and Superman, a kissing booth, a competition for prom king and queen, a raffle and more. The first 150 people through the door get a free "goody bag," and a portion of the proceeds benefits PEARLS, a local, non-profit organization working with at-risk girls to develop inner strength, character and leadership abilities.
"It's going to be the best dance party of the year, and it's smoke free inside so you can dance all night and not have developed asthma by morning," says organizer Susie Seidelman. "And there's an excellent chance you'll get lucky in the kissing booth."
Smoking will be permitted on Stonefly's patio.
Attendees are encouraged to dress in formal and creative fashion. "Wear something daring," challenges Seidelman.
Seidelman says whether you had a good experience at your high school prom or a bad one doesn't matter, because the Pedal Pusher Prom will be completely different.
"You can dance as close to your date as you want. Embarrassing photos of you posted to the Internet after prom will most likely not determine your popularity for the upcoming year. You don't have to hide in your friend's parents' mini-van to get drunk or make out because there is a bar and a kissing booth for exactly these purposes," says Seidelman.
The Pedal Pusher Society was formed in 2005 in Riverwest by a few friends who wanted to ride bikes with each other more often and simultaneously challenge Milwaukee's male-dominated underground bike culture.
The society hosts group rides on the first Thursday of every month and informally provides bike repair and maintenance information. Women and transgendered individuals are invited to join the Pedal Pusher Society, but men are welcome at the prom.
"Come hydrated and well-rested. We intend to turn this mutha out," says Seidelman.

Thanks for the clarity on the "trans" part. I was just thinking that going home with most of those women would elicit a feeling other than "lucky" to most men.
