Hundreds of parents, educators, students and community members will rally in support of public schools this Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the MATC Cooley Auditorium. The featured speaker at the rally is Diane Ravitch, a leading national expert in the very ideas that are being debated in Madison: accountability, testing and privatization.

The rally falls two days before a state budget hearing in Milwaukee, where public school supporters plan to demonstrate and testify against Gov. Walker’s proposed PreK-12 education cuts of $127 million, and against the expansion of taxpayer-funded voucher and privately run charter schools. Wednesday’s event is sponsored by several local, state and national teachers’ unions and by dozens of community and parent groups.
