Senator Franken?

According to the New York Times, comedian/radio talk show host Al Franken is planning a run for U.S. Senate from the state of Minnesota.

Franken's potential campaign would certainly attract media attention to the talented former SNL writer turned political pundit. He has a grasp on the political landscape but, his regular name-calling and childish antics can't bode well for a budding or even experienced politician from the left side of the aisle.

Evidently, the failing Air America radio network has prompted him to look for other employment avenues. Air America still owes him more than $350,000 in back salary. Heck, Air America even lost its Madison station. What's next? Berkeley, California? Although new reports have mentioned that Madison-area investors are looking at buying the fledging network.

Anyway, running and getting elected as a liberal/progressive democrat from the state of Minnesota is as easy as crossing the border from Mexico to the U.S. In fact, it is practically a given.

To its credit, Minnesota does have a history of electing celebrities to office so Franken is not necessarily a long shot, although he's probably hovering around Kathy Griffin D-list celebrity status these days.

So, let the campaign begin! For entertainment purposes only, my only requirement of a potential Franken candidacy is that he must use his one-man mobile uplink from his "Saturday Night Live" days!
