You can bid on anything from model trains to actual cars on eBay, and soon, people everywhere can bid on a little (or big) piece of Milwaukee.

The Sold on Milwaukee Web site is soldonmilwaukee.com.

It’s called "Sold on Milwaukee!" and it’s a charity auction on eBay organized by the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra League and VISIT Milwaukee (formerly the Greater Milwaukee Convention and Visitors Bureau).

“Milwaukee has a great story to tell,” says Doug Neilson, president and CEO of VISIT Milwaukee. “This auction, offering unique experiences from our past, present, and future, is a great way to showcase the best of our city to the world.”

Proceeds from the auction will be used to support youth music education programs and a new image marketing campaign highlighting Milwaukee as a major center for arts, culture and urban ecology.

The Milwaukee-themed auction items include:

• A flight to L.A. to meet Milwaukee native Jane Kaczmarek, of the Fox series “Malcolm in the Middle,” who will take you on a “Malcolm” set tour and give you an autographed script.

• A behind-the-scenes tour of the Milwaukee Art Museum, the chance to open and close the Calatrava wings, and a new book on the museum signed by Santiago Calatrava.

• A tour of the Harley-Davidson plant with Willy Davidson, grandson of one of the founders of the Milwaukee motorcycle company. He'll give you an autographed copy of his book and a ticket to the grand opening of the Harley Museum in 2008.

• A party for 20 with Milwaukee-based actor Mark Metcalf at his Mequon restaurant Libby Montana’s. Metcalf will chat about his roles as the “Maestro” in Seinfeld and the ROTC guy in “Animal House.”

• A Summerfest VIP package including free daily admission and two tickets to each mainstage performance in 2006.

• A tour of Miller Brewing Company for 30, including a pizza and beer party in the historic caves and a year’s supply of Miller beer.

• A chance to be the maestro and lead the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra during a live concert.

The auction is scheduled to run for 2-3 weeks in October 2005. The coordinators are seeking contributions of opportunities and items that set southeastern Wisconsin apart. "Sold on Milwaukee!" will soon have its own Web site, but in the meantime, contact project director Lisa Blue at (414) 962-6511 for more information or to submit donations.
