This weekend is all about Summerfest. The Big Gig hits the lakefront with live music, festival food and plenty of activities for the whole family. But if you're looking for something other than outdoor live music, Milwaukee's got you covered. See professional street racing at its best with the Downer Classic on Saturday. Friday events on Downer include a big Belgian beer festival. More bikes on Sunday in Waukesha with the Carl Zach Cycling Classic. Of course the Brew Crew is in town playing the Giants, and both Greek Fest and Cedarburg's Strawberry Festival celebrate culinary traditions. Outdoors not your thing? The Milwaukee Iron takes on the Green Bay Blizzard Friday night at the Bradley Center or the Indie Fashion Market gathers some local goods at the Fashion Ninja in the Third Ward.

Wisconsin 4-H is raising funds at the Cousins Subs Moo Tour on Friday. They'll be in Muskego and searching for the state's best, brightest and most creative moo-ers to compete in Moo-la-palooza, the world famous mooing contest at the Wisconsin State Fair. Historic Downer Avenue is home to one of the most famous urban criterium courses in the country. Global in reach and extremely local in flavor, The Downer Classic Pro Criterium could be one of the highlights of cycling in Wisconsin this summer. The full day of racing also features a popular kids' race, a Belgian Beer Festival, the famous Ben's Cyclery "Ultra Prime," as well as a full slate of racing all afternoon and evening. USA, USA
The U.S. soccer team shocked the world this week by beating Spain. Get this, Spain -- the top ranked team in the WORLD! -- had not lost a international soccer match since 1999, until the USA beat Spain on Thursday, 2-0. So, on Sunday they play in the finals of the FIFA Confederations Cup. Match is on ESPN2 and we play Friday's winner of the Brazil-South Africa match. fifa.com

BALZAC AT THE BEACH
From 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday Bradford Beach comes even more alive with its first wine tasting event of the season called "Balzac at the Beach." Wisconsin Children's Hospital benefits from the proceeds. Tickets can be purchased for $30 at the door on Sunday, in advance by phone at (414) 755-0099 or at Balzac Wine Bar near the corner of Arlington and Brady. CARL ZACH CLASSIC
Following Saturday's "Downer Avenue Race," check out pro racing again Sunday in Downtown Waukesha. The Carl Zach Cycling Classic includes racers from all over the world competing on hairpin turns at more than 30 m.p.h. Kiddie and women's races run all day starting at 11 a.m. and are capped by the pro men's race at 6 p.m. Local artist Luke Wein, designer of this year's race poster, will be on hand to sign copies of the Carl Zach poster at Taylor's People's Park.

WHERE HISTORY COMES TO THE TABLE
Kids are invited to a "culinary camp" that will get them cooking while learning about important events in the history of our country. LACROSSE
The 2009 Brew City Lacrosse Showdown and the Milwaukee Lacrosse Festival are this weekend at the Uihlein Soccer Complex. This is a multi-level tournament that provides separate divisional play for 4-6th grade boys, 7-8th grade boys, high school boys varsity and JV, girls high school and adult men's college / post-college club teams. All games will be played at the Uihlein Soccer Complex. ICE WORLDS
The Soref Planetarium at Milwaukee Public Museum is showing "Ice Worlds," which transports audiences to the Arctic and Antarctic to examine the ecosystems that live and thrive in those regions, and explore how their survival is intricately tied to our own. Then, travel beyond Earth to see how ice shapes the landscape and the natural systems on other planets and moons in our solar system. "Ice Worlds" also features the MPM-produced "The Pluto Story," a look at the popular ex-planet.

WISCONSIN HISTORY IN PICTURES
The Milwaukee School of Engineering launches a new full exhibit at the Grohmann Museum featuring the works of Thorsten Lindberg, a Wisconsin artist who completed work as part of the Works Progress Administration (WPA) in the 1930s and '40s. Many artists contributed to the WPA, and many local artists saw their careers developed and transformed during this time. Lindberg, in particular, took to documenting the work of human industry, particularly that of rural Wisconsin and Milwaukee in several large-scale paintings.

SMOKEY THE BEAR
"Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl: Home Sweet Home" is a new green-built exhibit developed by the Betty Brinn Children's Museum in collaboration with the U.S. Forest Service. Smokey Bear, Woodsy Owl and their forest friends will share important messages as they welcome visitors to pretend woodland, urban and stream settings that encourage families to spend time together outdoors, and inspire children to discover and care for the natural resources that sustain our world -- our home sweet home. The exhibit includes a variety of educational activities, costumes, puppets and props that will be especially appealing for children ages 2-8.
