Milwaukee's best cheap eats, 2010: Conejito's Place
The votes are in, and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best Dining 2010. The results of this readers' poll, including an editors' pick, are available in this series of articles that run all October long during Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com.
Last year, OnMilwaukee.com was reminded of why Milwaukee's loves Conejito's, which won the top spot in the Milwaukee's Best Cheap Eats poll this year.
"Authenticity? Check. Taste? Check. Affordability? Double check. Since 1972 Conejito's has been a Walker's Point mainstay that has developed an almost cult-like following among its fans. There's nothing fancy about it -- you're served on paper plates and the bar area gets pretty smoky, but if you're looking for a quality Mexican meal and a kickin' Margarita for well under $10, this is the place to be."
The second and third spots were taken by two other Brew City cheap eatin' landmarks: Real Chili and George Webb's. But for our part, the OnMilwaukee.com editorial staff thinks it's hard to be the great food at great prices at Riverwest's Nessun Dorma.

Me encanta Conejito's. Everything is great, but my fave order is the tostadas with a side of chopped meat, chips with beans and cheese and a few pork burritos to wash it all down. Zantac for dessert.

Thank god it's now smoke free! I actually go a couple times a month now! Choking smokers, don't you think the joker laughs at you? I do.
