The votes are in, and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best Dining 2008. The results of this readers' poll, including an editors' pick, are available in this series of articles that run all October long during Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com.
October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, special features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food. Bon appetit!
This swiftly growing coffee company has created quite a buzz both in Milwaukee and in the national coffee industry, and it's easy to see why.
They serve the strongest cup of joe around -- but do offer a daily mild blend, if you prefer -- and pay obsessively close attention to quality and taste control.
With nine area locations (nine!) including a brand spankin' new roastery and café in Riverwest and surburban cafes in Grafton and Wauwatosa Alterra has truly become a Milwaukee-made institution.
And, according to OnMilwaukee.com readers, it's Milwaukee's favorite place to enjoy a coffee drink. In fact, 61% of you said Alterra is the best in town. In comparison, second-place Stone Creek garnered just 8% of the vote.

It's a good thing I wasn't drinking anything because I would have spewed it all over my computer. Alterra amazes me with their incompetence in brewing espresso or coffee. If you mix enough sugar and milk in, it is possible to choke down a cappuccino, but any coffee connoisseur will tell you Alterra is AWFUL! Try Whole Foods for the best espresso in town. Comet also has a delicious drink with 4 shots of espresso, a touch of chocolate, topped off with coffee.

I agree Alterra is a great place to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee. Each of their stores have a great atmosphere. Especially the new Humboldt location. However, as far as coffee goes, I think Stone Creek's coffee has a better flavor. Especially their new Espresso. Definately a coffee lover's coffee vs the alternatives in town so far.
