Milwaukee's best desserts, 2013
For the seventh straight year, October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com, presented by the restaurants of Potawatomi. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, delectable features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food, as well as the winners of our "Best of Dining 2013."
This year, we combined the dessert, custard and frozen yogurt categories into one gigantic mega-category sure to make your sweet tooth swoon. And according to OnMilwaukee.com readers, in the epic battle of desserts, custard and frozen yogurt, custard comes out on top. Kopp's Custard, to be particular.
Kopp's had no problem with this year's heightened crop of competitors. The legendary Milwaukee establishment, with three locations scattered about the city, scooped up almost 300 more votes than the second place finisher, the now dethroned two-time dessert champion Honeypie. Le Reve, Leon's and Yo Mama wrapped up the rest of the top five.
The custard king has satisfied customers for over 60 years with creamy classic standbys – vanilla and chocolate – as well as their flavor of the day, which are posted through the month on Kopp's website. And then there are the burgers ... but that's a different category.
The OnMilwaukee.com editors went a different way with their choice, going with Le Reve as their winning dessert dealer. But really, don't we all win when it comes to the dessert category?
OnMilwaukee.com editors' choice: Le Reve
3. Le Reve
5. Yo Mama
Agreed with Photodavie - what a slap in the face to La Reve with their amazingly tasty and well presented deserts. Custard is uber Milwaukee and Kopp's is good, but can't be lumped in with pastries. What's next, are we going combine bacon, sausages and steaks together in a meat category?
Custard shuld be a separate catagory. You can't compare Kopps custard to a Pastry from Le Reve. Apple and oranges. BOTH great, just super different. Plus this is a custard town, it deserves it's own catagory.
