For the sixth straight year, October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com, presented by Concordia University. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, delectable features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food, as well as the winners of our "Best of Dining 2012."

Your votes are in, Milwaukee, and you have selected the winners of OnMilwaukee's Best Dining 2012. We're announcing the results of this readers' poll, including our editors' pick, in a series of articles that run all October long during Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com.

Venerable custard and butter burger mainstay, Kopp's, overtook Culver's as your pick for 2012's best local fast food. Culver's has won the poll since the question was first introduced in 2009?

So what changed?

Maybe nothing, and that's the point. With three locations spread out around suburban Milwaukee, Kopp's has been making amazing, made-to-order, fast food (although, really, it's not especially fast) since 1950.

To us, Kopp's is a winner on two fronts. Obviously, the frozen custard is legendary. But so are the butter burgers. In fact, runner-up Culver's doesn't really compare in that field; when our own staff did a taste test between the two, Kopp's overwhelmingly came out on top.

Between the inventive flavors of the day, the innovative architecture at its location and its reputation for spotless cleanliness, our readers made a good choice on this one. Who's ready for custard?

Our editors, however, picked Real Chili, because as chili goes, nothing on Earth compares. No one ever comes close.
