The votes are in, and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best Dining 2008. The results of this readers' poll, including an editors' pick, are available in this series of articles that run all October long during Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com.
October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, special features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food. Bon appetit!
Ladies and gentlemen, we have a repeat champion.
Make that a repeat double champion.
Venerable East Side restaurant Oakland Gyros, 2867 N. Oakland Ave., which already won the competition for "Best Late Night Drunk Eats" in voting by OnMilwaukee.com readers, also claimed another title in the "Best Greek" category.
It really wasn't close, either.
Nearly one out of three voters proclaimed Oakland Gyros to be their favorite stop for Greek food.
We know the restaurant has a deserved reputation for serving inexpensive meals quickly to patrons in various stages of inebriation, many of those customers make it back during sober hours, too.
OnMilwaukee.com editors' choice: Apollo Cafe
Runners-up:
2. Apollo
3. Ouzo
4. Mykono's
5. Grecian Delight
6. Omega
7. The Gyros Stand
8. Grecian Inn
9. Marquette Gyros

Maybe the majority of the Milwaukee residents only eat greek when they are drunk? That could be!

A win as fave drunk eats is warranted; a win as best Greek is more than a little stretch. At least to my half-Greek taste buds, Apollo is the best in town. For overall, Grecian Inn is by far the leader. Didn't get many votes because few people have probably ever been out there to its location on Capitol in Brookfield. (And by the way, it's recently been renamed Capital Cafe.)
