The votes are in, and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best Dining 2008. The results of this readers' poll, including an editors' pick, are available in this series of articles that run all October long during Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com.
October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, special features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food. Bon appetit!
OnMilwaukee.com readers have spoken. Ristorante Bartolotta in Downtown Tosa is Milwaukee's best Italian restaurant, and we agree.
For a decade or so, Joe Bartolotta has run one of the most consistently great Italian restaurants in town. And thanks to head Chef Juan Urbieta, the menu has never gone stale.
Urbieta and his crew create great special menus, including ones that focus on the bounty of regional Italian cuisine, spotlighting the diversity of Italian cooking, as well as winemaker dinners that pair great wines with special menus. So, if you're looking for red-checkered tablecloths and 10 versions of spaghetti and meatballs, you'll have to go elsewhere.
If, on the other hand, you like seafood, polenta, risotto, a wine list worthy of exploration, warm and crusty bread, a comfortable atmosphere and an attentive, knowledgeable staff, Ristorante Bartolotta is still the place to go.

Yes, I'm quite sure that Bartolotta's has a nice Gulfstream G550 private jet just so they can go back and forth to the Mediterranean for fresh calamari. Perhaps that's how they justify the prices on the menu...

I think this place is great.. I had the best calamari in my life there.. perfectly breaded and I was told, flown in fresh from the Mediterranean! I spent a month in Italy, and honestly this place was better than most of the restaurants I went to there..

Guys, c'mon! Stop this bickering! After all, I'm sure that MKE_Guy is: A. An authentic Italian/American, qualifying him to pass judgement on all things Italian and be able to pinch ladies bottoms without being considered a pervert, B. A certified chef with a culinary degree or someone with vast experience in the culinary arts and C. just an all-around swell guy.

Bartolotta's is NOT the best Italian Restaurant in Milwaukee. Having a gift certificate booth in the mall and being trendy do not equal good food. Bartolotta's is a place to blow a bunch of money on mediocore food with average service in the name of trendiness.

I'm not attacking your heritage, buddy, because it's mine, too. But we're Italian Americans, not Italians, which is what I wrote and who I was talking about. It's not my crappy eatery, either. It's just the best Italian restaurant in the city.
