The votes are in, and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best Dining 2009. The results of this readers' poll, including an editors' pick, are available in this series of articles that run all October long during Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com.
OnMilwaukee.com readers have spoken, again. Like last year, they have chosen Ristorante Bartolotta in Downtown Tosa as Milwaukee's best Italian restaurant.
For a decade or so, Joe Bartolotta has run one of the most consistently great Italian restaurants in town. And thanks to head Chef Juan Urbieta, the menu has never gone stale.
Urbieta and his crew create great special menus, including ones that focus on the bounty of regional Italian cuisine, spotlighting the diversity of Italian cooking, as well as winemaker dinners that pair great wines with special menus. So, if you're looking for red-checkered tablecloths and 10 versions of spaghetti and meatballs, you'll have to go elsewhere.
If, on the other hand, you like seafood, polenta, risotto, a wine list worthy of exploration, warm and crusty bread, a comfortable atmosphere and an attentive, knowledgeable staff, Ristorante Bartolotta is still the place to go.
OnMilwaukee.com editors' choice: Sala da Pranzo
Runners-up:
2. The Pasta Tree
3. Mimma's
4. Osteria del Mondo
5. Calderone Club
6. Tenuta's
7. Il Mito Enoteca
8. Louise's
9. Zarletti

If you want French, you go to LPB. If you want steak, Mr. B's or Bacchus. If you want Italian, then Ristorante Bartolotta it is. Like the OMC editors writes, this is NOT a spaghetti-meatball place. Yet, it is exquisitely Italian: cozy, comfortable, friendly...I gush because I've tried to find holes (food and service) wherever I dine. This place executes well - CONSISTENTLY.
