The votes are in, and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best Dining 2008. The results of this readers' poll, including an editors' pick, are available in this series of articles that run all October long during Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com.

October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, special features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food. Bon appetit!

Milwaukee has its fair share of Mexican restaurants, everything from fancy, modern establishments with full bars to small, classic places that serve authentic fare on paper plates. Nevertheless, OnMilwaukee.com readers have spoken: Botanas reigns as king among comida de Mexico.

It's known for doing the traditional Mexican dishes better than its Latin Quarter contemporaries near National Avenue, but its seafood selections are what hoist it to the top of the list.

The addition of the open-air patio contributes to the fun and relaxing atmosphere, especially on a warm evening. The bottom line is that Botanas seems to be your best bet for good service, good food at a good price, and don't you dare leave without ordering a margarita...or a pitcher of them.

OnMilwaukee.com editor's choice: Riviera Maya

I thought the food was okay but, the customer service was the absoulte worst! We were told during our dessert that they needed to seat a table of 16 and needed our table. We were at a table for four and all the tables next to us were occupied. We were asked twice to move, in less than 5 minutes. Extremely rude. We will never go back.

Food was OK, nothing spectacular. But what burned my tail was the waiter. He took our payment and didn't return with the change. He simply took it as the tip. A BIG NO-NO in my mind. He didn't earn that amount of a tip. I won't be eating here again. Too many other alternatives where the resturant EARNS the tip left.

Botanas? Merely mediocre at best. Try Pedranos, Guanajuato, Azteca or any other place. I'm sure the owners are laughing all the way to the bank at the drunk gringos.

I ate lunch there the other day, hot fresh chips and fresh salsa were brought to our table immediately. The server was as nice as could be, our drinks arrived quickly, as did our entrees. The California style fish tacos were hot, crunchy and delicious. Our chips were refilled with fresh and hot ones, as fast as could be. The service, the food, the cleanliness, this is one of my favorite places from now on!!!
