Milwaukee's best new restaurant, 2010: Horny Goat Brewing Co.
The votes are in, and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best Dining 2010. The results of this readers' poll, including an editors' pick, are available in this series of articles that run all October long during Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com.
The Horny Goat Brewing Co. features a simple menu, but has enough signature offerings to make it, according to OnMilwaukee.com readers, a cut above the rest.
The menu features hearty appetizers, chili, soups, burgers, pizza, salads, panini, wraps, sandwiches and desserts. Interestingly, Horny Goat pairs each food item with at least one of its craft beers which are brewed on-site.
Also, many of the sauces include Horny Goat beer as an ingredient, such as the he Vixen Red BBQ pizza that has a thick layer of homemade BBQ sauce prepared with Vixen Red Lager.
Plus, the spacious, upbeat environment adds to the Horny Goat dining experience and inspires visitors to come back again and again.
The OnMilwaukee.com editors' pick is Blue's Egg, which made an impressive No. 6 finish considering it opened right around the time the poll was launched.

Horny Goat will be a gold mind once they work out all the bugs, which should have occurred way before this vote. Best menu item i have had is the crab cakes. some of the better cakes around. But I must agree with the service. On a recent visit, just his past Halloween, I watched as one bartender stood in the corner talking with her firends as the bar was filling with patrons. ALthough she was no more that 3 feet away, we could not get her attention. there had to be at least 10 bartenders/barbacks behind the bar and yet people were waiting for drinks. When the CO2 went out instead of waiting for it to be changed (or going to another gun) the oblivious bartender above (her friends had left and yes she knew)) was pouring booze with flat soda only having to remake the drinks. Loss to the owner! And the only time a bartender's back should be towards the patrons is when they are putting $$ in the till. Improvements have been made but still a ways to go for #1.
what a joke, pathetic beer, worse food and abysmal service. i'm not sure what type of magical idiots actually voted for this place but i have a feeling that something wasn't on the up and up for voting in this category. harbor house, honeypie, cafe corazon, pastiche or hue deserved the very top of this list.
I've been here twice and while the outdoor patio section is pretty cool (ryan braun's outdoor area is WAY nicer), i can't imagine how this won Milwaukee's best new restaurant. The food selections are minimal, and it's only plain, lackluster tasting bar food. The service is below average. My biggest complaint is that both times i've been there, there is some employee sitting in the restaurant with a laptop out doing work!!!! Can you imagine being at any other restaurant on the list where you're dining next to some FOOL on their computer crunching numbers?!?!?!?! I just find this totally ridiculous...along with HG in general.
Seems like Horny Goat is buying advertising!!
If Horny Goat wins anything there is no justice! The place has the worst service I have ever experienced. We walked away after sitting for for 30 minutes at a table, while 6 staff gossiped and giggled just a few feet away from us. Nobody offered us menus or water, it was like we were not there. Really rude people, I will never go again.
