For the eighth straight year, October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com, presented by Locavore, the newest restaurant at Potawatomi Hotel & Casino. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, delectable features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food, as well as the winners of our "Best of Dining 2014."

It appears no category is safe from surprises in this year's best of dining poll, as the title of Milwaukee's best sandwiches – held for the past six years by Cafe Lulu – has been claimed by a new face. Or, rather, an old, familiar face.

With two locations in Shorewood and Fox Point, Benji's Deli – with its menu filled with tasty deli classics – has snagged the title of Milwaukee's best food between two slices of bread. It's not even the first time Benji's – established back in 1963 – has pulled off such an impressive upset this year, as it also took the title of best breakfast away from long-time champion Blue's Egg.

Apparently, the Benji's voting contingent came out to play in 2014 (as opposed to last year where Benji's didn't even score in the top five). As the only restaurant to hit over 1,000 votes, they were the obvious winners of the best sandwich category – finishing with over a thousand votes more than the second place holder, and fellow Milwaukee deli staple, Jake's. It was a very different story last year, when a mere two votes separated six-time former champ Cafe Lulu – which came in a close third – and Jake's.

Glorioso's and Melthouse Bistro wrapped up the top five in the poll, while the OnMilwaukee.com editors decided to go in a different route and threw some love at the scrumptious East Side sandwich spot Love Handle
