The votes are in and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best: Eat & Drink, 2007. The results of this readers' poll, including an editors' pick, are available in this series of articles that run all October long during Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com.
Once again, OnMilwaukee.com readers say Speed Queen serves the city's best soul food. Whether diners drive-through, carry-out or eat-in, the food is the same top-notch quality, and modestly served in Styrofoam containers with plastic utensils.
Speed Queen slow-cooks its beef and pork over an apple and hickory fire that creates a rich, flavorful taste. Most famous for their ridiculously tender ribs and sloppy-good sandwiches, Speed Queen attracts customers to the modest, North Side restaurant from all corners of the city for lunch and dinner.
Almost half of the OnMilwaukee.com readers polled chose Speed Queen as the city's top soul food eatery.
OnMilwaukee.com editors' choice: Mr. Perkins Family Restaurant
Runners-up:
2. Potawatomi Bingo Casino's soul food buffet
3. Savoy
4. Mr. Perkins Family Restaurant
5. 311 Club
6. Ja-Stacy's
7. Bungalow
8. Desmond's
9. Grant's
10. B&T Soul Food
11. QF&H

Right you are. Soul food restaurants might be Mr. Perkins, Grants, Browns Ham House or The Bungalow, but only someone not familar with soul food would label Speed Queen as soul food. It is a mighty fine BBQ restaurant though.

Speed Queen is BBQ not Soul Food you goofs!! Just because it is in a black area does not mean that the food is Soul Food (You city dwellers think your so sophisticated but this Kenosha loser is calling you folks out) And for the record Soul Food would be any type of high fat food from the south regardless if a White or A Black person cooked the food. For example: Thatched Collard Greens, Hog Maws, Chitterlins, Turkey Neck, Ham Hocks, Head Cheese.
