The votes are in, and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best Dining 2009. The results of this readers' poll, including an editors' pick, are available in this series of articles that run all October long during Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com.
The OnMilwaukee.com carnivores made it clear that the Five O'Clock Steak House -- formerly Coerper's -- is still the best place in town to eat steak.
The Five O'Clock Steak House looks and feels like a classy '50s supper club with vintage light fixtures, bartenders in crisp white shirts ready to mix old school cocktails, a fair share of cigarette smoke (until next July, of course) and an extremely attentive level of service from the entire staff.
The steaks range in price from $32 to $38, and include a porterhouse steak ($38), New York strip sirloin ($36), filet mignon (ladies cut $28 / king's cut $38), rib eye ($37) and filet Oscar ($32). All of the steaks are served with butter and sauteed mushrooms.

Thank God the readers got this one right. After seeing Buffalo Wild Wings win Best Wings, I was expecting Outback to win best steak.

Must say that Five O Clock and Mr. B's have similar quality in steaks, but Five O Clock club feels so much more comfortable to me and that's why I like it better. Mr. B's felt overcrowded, especially in the small bar. I'm going to Butch's for the first time tomorrow- I've heard great things about it from friends.

DickDave-Is this article about atmosphere, or quality of steak? Thats what I thought...Coerpers was the correct choice!!!

As I remember this place was very smokey and felt like a supper club from Northern, WI. This place has little atmosphere.

It might be too new to have made the list, but Smyth does an excellent filet. Had it a few weekends ago and it was one of the best I have had in a while.
