The votes are in, and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best Dining 2009. The results of this readers' poll, including an editors' pick, are available in this series of articles that run all October long during Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com.

For almost two decades, The King & I has ruled Milwaukee's Thai food scene and, once again, OnMilwaukee.com readers picked it as their favorite.

The King & I is known for its famous volcano chicken, but the restaurant offers more than 65 meat, seafood and poultry dishes that range from mild to tongue-scorchingly hot, including mango curry, stir fried scallops, basil eggplant, pud Thai and many more.

The owners of The King & I, Bob and Marie Phoungphol, immigrated to the United States from Thailand in the '70s, and they worked in numerous Thai restaurants before opening their own. Many of the recipes on The King & I's menu come from the owners' mothers.

Now it its second Downtown location, The King & I provides an intimate dining experience, but it can also accommodate large groups.

OnMilwaukee.com editors' choice: Thai Palace

Runners-up:
2. EE Sane
3. Singha Thai
4. Thai Palace
5. Thai Kitchen
6. Bangkok House
7. Mai Thai
8. Singha Thai 2
9. Chaing Mai Cafe
10. Thai Royal

I've been to a few on the list mostly for lunch buffet. King & I is so-so and overpriced. Thai Palace has good fresh food but do not keep their buffets trays stocked and often your left with a spoonful of mush. Singha Thai regular menu is great but expensive and frequently very dirty at the West Allis location.

I'm sorry - The King & I does not even compare to Ee-sane! Ee-sane is by far THE BEST in all of Milwaukee county - hands down.
