October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, special features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food. Bon appetit!
Months after the squat retail building was completed at 2045 E. North Ave., Bruegger's bagels is finally opening in the anchor of the space. The eatery, which already looks rarin' to go, opens to customers at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7.
The building, with a few other small retails spaces currently available had expected to host a Starbucks, too, but the coffee chain backed out in June around the same time it announced a round of store closings nationwide.
Recently, Subway announced it will open a sandwich shop there.

i have to say it once again, this was a tremendous opportunity missed. what a waste for such a prominent parcel of land. instead of a vibrant mixed-use building, we get something that could sit alongside the mind-numbing anonymity of an Anywhere, USA suburb... best of luck to Brueggers though.

I do like bagels, but I also hate that development. Shame on the developer for building such an eye sore on what should have been a marquee corner for the East Side. Now, flip Prospect and Farwell to two-way streets ... that will help drive business. And, Subway ... well, kinda a bottom feeder franchise, but it should do well there. What about the other spaces? Sadly, you'll probably see a mobile phone shop too.
