For the fifth straight year, October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com, presented by Concordia University. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, delectable features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food, as well as the winners of our "Best of Dining 2011."
Milwaukee cheap-eats mainstay Conejito's Place suffered a blow a year ago with the passing of owner Jose "Conejito" Garza.
But the loss of the Garza, who came from Monterrey, Mexico and opened the eatery bearing his nickname (it means "bunny") in 1972 is still dishing out filling Mexican food to a crowd of enthusiastic regulars.
They're dished out on paper plates – part of the trademark Conejito's experience and the sign of a dining spot that's providing its food without the extras.
That's part of how the winner in this category for the past two years keeps those eats cheap, after all.
