Pinching pennies 'til payday? Or just looking for something new this lunch hour? Milwaukee Downtown, BID #21, presents "The $5 Lunch Challenge."

This week we asked Ed, a Milwaukee Downtown Public Service Ambassador, to find lunch for under $5. Is it possible? And how. Check out this week's challenge winner.

Courthouse Cafe
ground level of the Milwaukee County Courthouse, 901 N. 9th St.

It's one of Westown's best kept secrets: the Courthouse Café has an amazing daily menu. Choose the soup of the day, one of the chef’s specials, the latest sandwich at the County Grille or the meal of the day at the 10th Street Deli – almost everything is under $5. And a side dish and soda are included.

Take last Friday’s menu, for instance. The grilled ham and cheese sandwich at the County Grille was $4.75, while the 10th Street Deli served a salami, ham and Swiss wrap with chips and soda for only $4.25.

Also, the chef’s special was a Milwaukee fish fry with fries, cole slaw and rye bread for $4.95.

Lunch is served in the cafe from 10:45 am to 1:30 pm daily.

Call (414) 276-4008 for the weekly menu.
