Bastille Days came and went, but don't let that stop you from enjoying crêpes throughout the year. These very thin, pancake-like pastries are usually made from wheat flour and eaten for breakfast, lunch, dinner or dessert.
Metro Milwaukee is home to a variety of restaurants that serve crêpes. Here are some of our favorites, and feel free to add more via the Talkback feature.
Brew City crêperies:
Chez Jacques
1022 S. 1st St., (414) 672-1040
http://www.chezjacques.com
Jacques is the crêpe capitol of Milwaukee. The crêpe menu features smoked salmon, roast beef mushroom, chicken curry, spinach Roquefort, caramelized apples, banana Nutella, poached pears, vanilla with berries and more. Prices range from $5.95 to $9.95. Check out Chez Jacques' new patio, too.
Coquette Café
316 N. Milwaukee St., (414) 291-2655
http://www.coquettecafe.com/
This Third Ward French restaurant occasionally serves crêpes as a special entree, so please call ahead.
Crème & Crêpe Café
W70 W6340 Bridge Rd., Cedarburg, (262) 377-0900
www.cedarcreeksettlement.com
Cedarburg's Crème & Crêpe Café features many crêpe options, including the popular "Combination Star" that comes with ham, Swiss cheese and asparagus. Their dessert crêpes feature two scoops of ice cream rolled in a crêpe and topped with fruit or chocolate. Entrée crêpes run $4.50-$4.75; dessert crêpes are $3.25-$3.50.
Elliot's Bistro

www.elliotsbistro.com
Hartford Bistro
3461 High Road, Hartford, (262) 670-9988
hartfordbistro.com
Both Elliot's and Hartford Bistro have the same owner and menu, featuring two crêpe options on the brunch menu. Crêpes New Orleans ($11.95) is made with real crab meat and okra, and Crêpes Maison ($12.95) is made with chicken, mushrooms, spinach and cream sauce. On May 29, Elliott's had a fire and closed. The restaurant might reopen in six months. Stay tuned to OnMilwaukee.com for more information and call before visiting.

Yes - Satelite Crepes is amazing! They are in a new location each day of the week and they use all natural ingredients. I had the buckwheat batter with mozzerella, herbs and truffle oil. My friend ordered the banana and nutella - it was spectacular!

I am happy to see that Elliot's Bistro is back. I know that there was a rather serious fire several weeks (or was it months?) ago. I want to check out Nate's at the Public Market....I love savory.

The BEST crepes are: Nate's Crepes -- Nathaniel Sheahan owns Nate's Crepes. Wow. Available at the Milwaukee Public Market on Saturday mornings through October, these things are awesome. Order savory or sweet, Nate's Crepes come in several varieties. Ham, cheese, artichokes, asparagus, egg, chocolate and more.
