A contest that began with 188 entries has resulted in one over-riding winner – a burger by the name of "Curd is the Word" – at Georgie Porgie’s Treefort Restaurants.

Submitted by Matthew Heislen of Mukwonago, the 1/4-pound or 1/2-pound burger is topped with homemade haystack onions, fried cheese curds and homemade ranch on a white bun (swap out a wheat bun or pretzel bun for an additional $1).

It beat out four other finalists, including Wisconsin Cheese, the Nay Nay, the Jacked Up Avocado Turkey Burger, the South Side Slider.

The winning burger was chosen by a panel of judges, including Marcus Hanel and Ed Sedar of the Milwaukee Brewers, Chip Brewster of Fox 6’s Real Milwaukee and Wes McKane from 103.7 Kiss FM.

Judges Marcus Hanel and Ed Sedar both picked this as their favorite by far and loved it so much that they took it on the road with them to New York.

The "Curd is the Word" burger will be available in stores through at least May 31 and will be featured on Fox 6’s Real Milwaukee at the Mt. Pleasant Georgie Porgie’s.

Locally owned and operated Georgie Porgies has locations in Oak Creek and Mt. Pleasant. The restaurant is known for its burgers, gyros and award-winning custard.
