"Food Wars" host Camille Ford in Chicago. Is Milwaukee next? (PHOTO: travelchannel.com)

Coming soon: "Food Wars" -- Sobelman's vs. AJ Bombers?

"Food Wars," the new Travel Channel show featuring host Camille Ford, has been in Milwaukee recently filming and trying to solve our city's "burger war" between two of the city's best hamburgers: Sobelman's and AJ Bombers. Mazos Burgers, 31 46 S. 27th St., was also filmed and could be included in the show.

Here's a Tweet from AJ Bombers:

@AJBombers: Dear MKETweeps -- Just got off the phone w/ Dave Sobelman -- Food Wars to pit Sobelmans vs @AJBombers

"Food Wars," describes itself this way: "There's a debate brewing across the country, and it's taking place in Everytown, USA, with legions of loyal fans passionately defending the local eateries and the iconic dishes that make their towns famous. From Detroit's hot dog war -- Lafayette's vs. American Coney Island's -- to one of the most famous battles in the country -- the Philly cheesesteak war between Pat's and Geno's -- it's time to end these rivalries once and for all as Travel Channel presents 'Food Wars.'"

A recent episode pitted Italian beef sandwiches of Chicago.

Joe Sorge tells me via Twitter that he'll have "more to come" soon. And, of course, just because the network was here doesn't mean anything will ever air. But, the fact that producers expressed interest in Milwaukee does mean something.

I'll pass along further details when I get them.

In the meantime, follow the show and its "Bracket Challenge" here. And, react directly via this Web site that was created by AJ Bombers.

*Spoiler* Someone broke their confidentiality agreement and spilled the beans this weekend. The winner was: Sobelman's.

This is silly. Everyone knows that the Nite Owl Drive In at 830 E Layton has the best burgers in Milwaukee! Sobelmann's is good, but it seems ever since they expanded their building and opened Tall Grass their burger quality seems to have gone down. They still rank in my top 3 places along with Mazo's on 27th and Layton but they are nowhere near the Nite Owl. $4 cheeseburger and a $3 malt = dining perfection!! Everyone who is serious about burgers in Milwaukee owes it to themselves to check out the Nite Owl. They have been around since 1948! They must be doing something right! Mazo's has been open forever as well (1930's, I believe). These are the places that should be reviewed. The institutions. Not the places that have just been opened. They haven't been around long enough to be in a "Food War" with their competition.

They are both great burgers, my 2 favorite in town. I also like Elsas to round out my top 3 because of the toppings on the APV which include bacon, blue cheese and peppercorns. Bombers is a better value but they are both great burgers. I have tried to like Sobelmans Tallgrass but the meat is always dry. End of Story!

Iron Horse has the best burger in town at the moment. In my opinion of course. But I feel pretty strongly about it :-)
